Tiers are available in this game, meaning, if you complete the first tier then you go to the second tier and if you do not complete the first tier then you do not go second tier. If you research texts one to six from tier one, then you unlock text from tier two, the same as tier 3, 4 and five(5). 

Tier 1 tech cost around 2500, tier 3 tech cost around 12,000, tier 4 tech cost around 25,000 and tier 5 tech cost around 50,000 or even higher. If you complete this task then you prompt another tier.
